Coatney Ella Prince, 96, went home to be with the Lord on July 22, 2016. Born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama then relocated to Akron, Ohio in 1957. Coatney worked at Akron Children's Hospital for 29 years as a surgical supply technician. She was a devoted woman of God, serving at Greater Bethel and Faith Missionary Baptist Church for many years. Coatney was well known for cooking, and baking and an expert in the garden. She was a very loving, strong, and supportive family back bone.
She was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, three brothers; son, Willie Chatman; daughter, Dorothy Kelly; granddaughter, Cynthia Strickland and two great granddaughters; two son-in-laws, Joshua Johnson and Fletcher Kelly.
To cherish her memory she leaves her daughter, Mary Johnson of Akron, Ohio; seventeen grandchildren; forty four great grandchildren, thirty nine great great grandchildren, two great great great grandchildren; three sisters, Annie Bell Broaddus of Muncie, IN, Odessa Smith of Richmond, IN and Claudine Hendon of Maylene, Alabama; two step- sisters, Hazel Carter and Dorothy Williams of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. A special thank you to Akron General Hospice Care Center and to granddaughter/caregiver, Ellen Woods and grandson, Jerome Kelly.
Home Going celebration will be held on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at 12 p.m. at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church 180 Edward Ave. Akron, Ohio 44310. Family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until time of service. Pastor Paul Broaddus, eulogizing and Pastor Shawntee Hardin, officiating. Interment at Mt. Peace cemetery. Procession will form and condolences may be sent to 551 Cuyahoga Street, Akron, Ohio 44310
