Timothy Lee Matthews was born on April 7, 1953 to the late Delores Woodall and Wilbert Kelly in Massillon, Ohio.  He departed this life after suffering for years from a chronic illness on Sunday, October 16, 2016.
He moved to Carthage, North Carolina at a very young age where he resided with his adoptive parents, the late Ather and Carrie Lee Matthews.
Timothy attended Union Pines High School in North Carolina where he had completed his education in 1971.  Upon graduation, Timothy relocated back to Ohio and attained a position as a steel worker at Republic Engineered Steel and worked for 20 plus years until retirement.  He then pursued other interests and worked with Massillon’s sanitation services as well as driving a commercial tour bus.
Timothy was a man of many talents, but his heart was in sports; softball, football, and basketball to be specific.  He was a member of the Elks Club softball team where he played for many years.  During that time, he also became the basketball coach for the Boys Club of Massillon and became a role model for many of the youth in the area.
One of Timothy’s other passions was taking professional pictures.  He had a side business where he could be found taking pictures of youth sports, professional sports, weddings, and anything else that motivated him.
Timothy was preceded in death by his parents, Delores Woodall and Wilbert Kelly; adoptive parents, Ather and Carrie Lee Matthews; stepson, Timothy Stevenson; siblings, Barbara Jean Daniels, Dianne Kelly, and Donald Kelly.  He leaves to cherish his memories: three daughters, Dr. Angela Matthews, Crystal Matthews Pirolozzi, and Teanna Vasser; six grandchildren, Noah Lawson, De’Andre Smith Jr., Maloni McCoy, Taylor Stevenson, Brittney Stevenson, and Kala Stevenson; three brothers and six sisters, Darrell and Peggy Kelly of New York, Darlene Kelly of Canton, Ohio, Willamena Kelly of Texas, David (Beatrice) Kelly, Darryl Fenix, Troyetta (Keith) Palma , Ann Trunnell, and Betty Woodall of Los Angeles, California; special cousins, Connie Alston, Lorraine Gordon, Ather Matthews, and Regina Matthews; and a host of other relatives and friends.
