MAXIE BELL Obituary

After a brief illness, Maxie Bell, 87, beloved husband of Shirley Bell for the past 64 years, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, May 12, 2022.  Maxie Bell was born in Long Street, LA, graduated from Desoto Parish High School and at a young age met the Lord at Old Zion Baptist Church.  Maxie and his wife Shirley moved to Akron, OH. in 1957.  According to his wife, his favorite bible verse was John 3:16.  His favorite song was “Peace in the Valley,” written by Thomas A. Dorsey.

Maxie was a veteran for the U.S. Armed Forces, serving from 1955 to 1961 in such diverse locations as Alaska and Iceland. He was honorably discharged with commendations.

He started his career at the Ford Motor Co.'s. Walton Hills Stamping Plant in 1965. Throughout his tenure he held numerous positions and was an active member of the 420 Local United Auto Workers (UAW). He was known for his then Citizens Band—or CB-handle— “Ding-a-Ling” by his friends, due to his last name of Bell. Maxie retired after 42 years with Ford. He was an avid bowler in several leagues and tournaments.

He is survived by his loving wife, Shirley Jean Bell, daughters, Tara A. Bell, Trevalyn L. Bell and Twila D. Bell all of Akron, OH. Also survived by his sister Georgia Anne Bell of Akron, OH, his brother Robert Belton of Shreveport LA. and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, Maxie wished for donations to be sent to either: The Haven of Rest Ministries of Akron, Ohio (330) 535-1563, or Cheyenne River Indian Outreach in Eagle Butte, South Dakota (605) 234-3244.
