SHARENA SPENCER Obituary

Sharena M. Spencer was born to Jiles P. Smitherman and Bernice Banks in Flower Fifth Avenue hospital in NYC on December 16th 1955. She departed her life on March 10th 2024 following an advanced chronic lung illness at Cleveland Clinic Mercy Medical Center in Canton Ohio. Sharena Spencer was born and raised in Brooklyn NewYork she attended Eastern District High School in Brooklyn New York and eventually became a dedicated worker who held a wide variety of occupations throughout her lifetime, from a professional bartender to a cleaner, caretaker and counselor for youth development. She later moved to Canton Ohio in 1992 she married Willis Spencer and has remained in Canton Ohio ever since. Sharena was from the old school, mature, talented, wise and streetwise beyond her years. She was raised by hardworking parents who taught her strong values: The golden rule to never think she was above others and to dignify & respect others as she would like to be treated! Sharena was Genuine and Real and although she had a no nonsense policy, many who really got to know her for the first time loved and respected her and can really open up to her because she kept it real, and you felt as if you’ve known her for a lifetime. She was dearly loved & respected by many family members as a caring mother, grandmother, sister and aunt friend and a fighter down to the end, even the nursing staff who cared for her down to her last breath would say:”To know Ms. Spencer is to love Ms. Spencer and that they just don’t make genuine 24 karat gold people like her, like they used to anymore, they only come once in a lifetime!” As she temporarily sleeps in death, she looked forward to being resurrected to perfect health by Jehovah God on a restored paradise earth according to Psalms 37:29 and Revelation 21:3-5. Sharena M. Spencer was preceded in death by her husband Willis Spencer, her older sister Regina Cephas, younger brother Peter J. Smitherman and nephew Johnny Cephas. She leaves to cherish her memory her older son Lamont J .Smitherman, younger son Robert L. Smitherman. Her older sisters Yvette C. Davis and Tanya D Smitherman. Her Nephews Antonio Cephas, William Cephas, Eugene P Cephas, David Cortijo. Nieces, Charisse Smitherman, Brandy Davis. And eight beloved grandchildren Anecia, Essence, Skylar Smitherman, Jaden Sankey, Kendell, Arnez, Brooklynn & Hezekiah Smitherman. And a host of friends and family members who loved and respected her.
