SARA JEAN (SHEARER) MASKE

Sara J. Maske bid farewell to this life on Friday, September 11th. She was born on July 28, 1958 to Hurley Jack Shearer and Sarah Jane Hayes. Her birthday was a significant date to her because her mother and namesake had a birthday three days later.

Sara loved unconditionally and deeply. If she cared about you, it felt special because you knew it was genuine. She was a fierce defender of her loved ones. She grew up with  7 siblings; 4 brothers & 3 sisters so she was tough. Even though they branched out and started their own families, they remained each other’s warrior to the end.

Sara’s life & destiny really began when she gave birth to her first child. The true light of her life. She cared and loved all her children deeply. Sara embraced grandparenthood from the very beginning. She loved it even though illness prevented her from being active with her babies.

On July 29, 2001, Sara married Keith Maske at Greater Peace Church after dating for many years. He decided to make an honest woman of her.  They were happily married for years. Although they eventually divorced, they remained close and decided to go steady until her death. They still  believed in...”To death do us part.”

 Sara was a former member of Greater Peace Church.  She held the title of Kitchen Ministry Leader. Pastor Luke would call her a one person committee. She honed her skills in this ministry for banquet cooking & baking.

Sara later joined St. Mark Baptist Church, her final church home. She was active in the Culinary Ministry, Evangelistic Outreach Ministry and Pastor's Anniversaries. She was a faithful servant attending services,    Bible Study and Sunday School when health permitted.

Sara is preceded in death by father, Hurley Jack Shearer; mother, Sarah Jane Hayes; sister, Sylvia Hooten; brother, Harold Shearer.  She leaves to cherish her memories and continue her legacy two daughters, Toshiba Shearer and Tiffany Shearer; two sons, DeVon Shearer of Oregon and Andron Massey; two sisters, Earnestine Brewer and Felicia Shearer; four brothers, Samuel (Simara) Brewer, Harvey Shearer, Daleford Shearer and Timothy Shearer; 8 grandchildren, Monee Shipley, Tahja Pritchard, Klumanadi Shearer, Taleah Smith, Coleone Massey,  Amagine Massey, Jordan Massey, Zaierra Massey, and Messiah Massey; two great-grandchildren, Preston Alexander and Elliott Pritchard; Ex-husband, Keith Maske; best friend, Toni Daniels, and a host of other friends and family.
