SAMEIKA JOHNSON Obituary

As loved ones stood around her bedside at Aultman Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2023, Sameika Ann Carpenter Johnson said “Yes” to the Angels who came to take her from labor to reward.

Sameika was born April 28, 1975  in Massillon, Ohio to Darrell Wartley and MaryAnn Carpenter. Together, along with her grandmother,  Yvonne Carpenter Grace, she was  raised in the fear and admonition of the Lord!

She attended the Massillon Public School System and graduated from Washington High School in 1994. After high school she attended Brown Mackie College where she pursued a degree in Massage Therapy.

Sameika accepted Christ at an early age under the leadership  of Rev. Joe Sinclair at Friendship Baptist Church where she previously served as the Praise Dance Supervisor and Leader. One of her greatest accomplishments was recently becoming a founding member of her new church home; New Beginnings Baptist Church,  under the leadership of Pastor Hubert Carpenter.

For many years Meika enjoyed working in Home Health Care taking care of her patients with attentiveness and joy.  She was recently a sales Manager at The Dollar Tree until her illness. There she made many friends with her co-workers and customers.  She never met a stranger and occasionally became a protector to those who came upon somebody who didn’t believe fat meat was greasy but she was there to prove it!  Besides loving her job she also enjoyed the 3 C’s;
Crafts, Cooking, and the Casino!Meika loved her family her family loved her!  After her grandmother passed she became the matriarch to many as she soon assumed the role of “Big Mama” especially to her aunts and uncles who are all older than her but looked up to her for advice and guidance.  She took great pleasure in organizing family gatherings especially feeding her “ride and die” uncles; Greg, Tee and Michael, but her greatest assignment was as Caregiver of Pearline which she did with kindness, love and protection!   Although Pearlie is the real boss “Big Mama” will surely be missed!

Sameika leaves to cherish her memories, her father; Darrell Wartly, five sisters, three brothers,  one special niece; Tejuania Cundiff, a host of aunts, uncles,  nieces, nephews and cousins, special friends Rochelle Arnold, Pete Liossis, Karen Loibl and Sarah Zeno,  along with many other friends, acquaintances and her New Beginnings Church family.

She was preceded in death by her mother; MaryAnn Smith , two step-fathers; William Peak and Frank Smith, Sr., Grandmother, Yvonne Grace, Grandfathers; Morris Carpenter and Ernest Grace, and Aunt, Chandra CarpenterAs loved ones stood around her bedside at Aultman Hospital on Sunday, March 19, 2023, Sameika Ann Carpenter said “Yes” to the Angels who came to take her from labor to reward.
