Ronald Veal went home to be with the Lord on July 1, 2021. Ron was born on July 29, 1944, in Akron, Ohio to the union of Julius Veal and Grace (Banks) Veal.
He graduated from East High School in 1963 and later received two college degrees from the University of Akron and Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Central Michigan. He maintained supervisory positions at Firestone Rubber Company and Consolidated Freightway prior to working as an Industrial Timestudy Engineer at Ohio Brass Company in Baberton, Ohio. He later assumed the positon of Employment Manager and subsequently became the Director of the Barberton Safety City Council. He retired from General Motors after accumulating 30 years of service. He performed various personnel positions and worked at many locations for GM. He worked in Hudson, Lordstown, Dayton, and Warren, Ohio. He worked in Kansas City, Missouri, Kansas City, Kansas, and New York City. His final work assignment for GM was in Brookhaven, Mississippi. He worked with Jackson State University Employment Board to help select students to receive funding for scholarships. He retired in 2008. He was member of the Touchdown Club, International Opportunity Industrial Center, National Alliance of Business Men, and the International Toastmasters Speakers Club. He was a Certified Ohio Safety Trainer, Certified Drug and Alcohol Counselor, and a Certified Employee Assistance Counselor.
Ron enjoyed bowling, playing golf, traveling, and spending time with family. The Dollar Tree and the Goodwill quickly became two of his favorite pastimes after retiring. The grandchildren also found love and great appreciation with what the Dollar Tree had to offer, since “Gram-Paw”, would visit frequently.
He had an “impeccable negotiating gift”. If something cost $100, he paid $10, if not free. He abundantly bragged about his spotless 50-60 year driving record and not having an accident. Yet, no one is quite sure how many accidents or potential accidents he may have caused.
For a “number of years”, he was 29 years old, 39 years old for some years, finally July 29, 2020, he said he finally made it to 59 years old…….. In 2021, we are starting the celebration a little early, and from a distance, but we know Ron will be with us and will live forever in our hearts.
