Obituary

Paul McCloud Stephens was born in Akron, Ohio on June 25, 1956.  He was the youngest child of Jethro and Emma Laura (Miles) Stephens.  He grew up in what’s commonly known as Goodyear Heights on 399 Morningview Ave with his siblings (James, Claudester, and Cecilia).  His formal education occurred in Akron Public Schools graduating from East High School in 1974, and he also studied at the University of Akron.

Paul was an active member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church where he sang in the Adult Choir. He was known for his melodious voice as he sang tenor in various choirs throughout the Northeast Ohio community.  He also attended Antioch Baptist Church in Atlanta, GA.

During and immediately following high school, Paul worked at General Tire Rubber Company in various jobs until the early 1980’s when he moved to Atlanta, Georgia seeking new opportunities.  Upon relocating to Atlanta, he worked for LOMA (Life Office Management Association, Inc.) in the educational department as a Business Agent/ Technical Engineer and retired with 30+ years of service.  Due to his declining health, he returned to Akron, and was cared for by his eldest sister Claudester.

Paul was a true friend to many and a father figure, uncle, mentor to those who needed a positive role model!  He was kindhearted, helpful, and very giving.  He rarely raised his voice but when he did “he said what he meant and meant what he said!”  He was a problem solver and known to some as the “Fix It Man!” Everywhere he went, he left a lasting impression on all those he encountered.

Paul enjoyed skating, sightseeing, and going to amusement parks and museums.  He was an avid reader of science fiction and mystery books.  He enjoyed going to the movies and listening to old school music.  He loved traveling and spending time with family and friends.  And his greatest passion was knitting and crocheting.  He was a master craftsman and known for artist and creative abilities in making afghan’s, hats, scarves, etc.

Paul was proceeded in death by both parents, brother William James Stephens, sister’s Pauline and Cecilia Ann (Hamilton) Stephens.  He leaves to cherish is his memory sister Claudester Stephens, nieces Anita Cecilia Stephens and Carla LaJuan Sykes, nephew William James Stephens, II; great nieces Destine’, Trinity, and Tamara; great-nephews Arman, William III, Trevon, Isaiah, Cory; great-great nephews Destin and Jadence; a host of cousins, dear friends, and acquaintances.
