PAUL MILLER Obituary

Paul Miller was born on March 2, 1943 to the late Jessie Oglesby and Gladys Miller in Akron, Ohio.  Paul delighted in the fact that he was able to see so much during his lifetime. Men delivering ice for iceboxes, trolley transit, party line telephone service, going from black and white to digital tv, and businesses being opened on Sundays.  Some of his favorite past times were reading, gardening, and following any kind of sport.

Paul graduated from Central High, where he was a member of the National Honor Society and Vice President of Student Council.  He also lettered in track for three years, and was elected to the All City and All-District Football teams.  Paul went on to study at The University of Akron on a Touchdown Club Scholarship, playing football for one year until an injury ended his college career. Paul went on to work for Chrysler, and then Goodyear Tire and Rubber from which he retired after 35 years of service.

In his spare time, Paul gave effortlessly to so many through personal and community deeds for over 50 years.  Paul was a Past Master of Phoenix Lodge #112, High Priest of Zerubbabel Chapter #40,  member of El Zerubbabel Court #5, and past Worthy Patron of The Eastern Star Phoenix Chapter 96.  He was a long-time member of Mt. Lebanon Baptist church where he fulfilled many roles. He was an ordained deacon, usher board member, former teacher for both Sunday and vacation bible schools, and former assistant superintendent and superintendent of church school.

Paul is preceded in death by his parents, Jessie-Oglesby and Gladys Miller; stepmother, Veronica Olgesby; mother and father in-law, Rev. Bell Smith Sr. and Ruby Lee Smith; daughter, Agnes Jones; son, Christian Miller; and stepson, Gregory Davis.
