ORANGE (PAUL) FINNEY

Orange Paul Finney completed his journey on April 13, 2022, at the age of 81. Paul was born on March 17, 2022, in Yellow Bluff, Alabama to Payton Finney and Mattie (Phillips) Finney, the eighth in a family of nine children.

Paul was raised in Wilcox County, Alabama. He graduated from Camden Academy High School in 1960. That same year he moved to Akron, Ohio with the rest of his family. He worked at the Chrysler’s Twinsburg Stamping Plant for over 40 years, retiring in 2001. Paul married in 1964 and to that union was born two children, Daniel, and Melody Finney. On April 12, 1998, he married Susie Harris-Finney. They enjoyed being members of the Gospel Music Workshop of America, traveling to the annual conferences and being the founders of the Gospel Train gospel radio program for over 22 years. Paul loved doing his lottery “work-out”, being outdoors and fishing.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother; father; wife, Susie Harris-Finney; sisters, Minnie (Saul) Link and Bernice (Nathaniel) Robinson; and brothers Payton Finney Jr., and General Lee (Alice) Finney; brother-in-law, Ezell Smith, and sister-in-law Rosemary Finney. He is survived by his siblings, Roy (Barbara) Finney, Alexander Finney, Sadie Belle Smith and Elnora (Otha) Everage; sister-in-law, Nettie Finney; children, Daniel and Melody Finney; bonus children, Joseph (Julie) Harris, Shonda Harris and Aimee (Ryan) Wade; grandson Arrington Finney; 12 bonus grandchildren, including Neije Harris-Brice, who he helped raise; and 14 bonus great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends.

A special thank you to his son-in-law, Ryan Wade, or as Paul called him, “his best friend” for being a great support, friend, caregiver and confidante during health and sickness.

Homegoing services will be held Saturday, April 23, 2022, at 12:00pm at Rhoden Memorial Home, 1101 Palmetto Ave., Akron, Ohio 44306, Rev. Dr. Alicia Malone officiating and eulogizing. Interment at Glendale Cemetery. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 11:00am until time of services. Condolences may be sent to the funeral home.
