Lucille Hamilton, 80, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2023, surrounded by her family. She was born February 25, 1942, in Floyd, Virginia to the late Harry and Katherine Vaughn, she was one of six children.
Lucille graduated from Christianburg Institute in Cambria, Virginia. After graduation, she relocated to Akron, Ohio where she met the love of her life, Jim Hamilton and would have been married 60 years. Lucille was an excellent wife, mother and mother figure to countless others.
Lucille was a faithful member of Zion Temple Baptist Church for over 55 years. She held several positions within the church that included, Mother of The Church, Usher and Church Nurse. She retired from the Akron Board of Education with 23 years of service. She was an avid cheerleader for her husband’s bowling team, always there to cheer him on.
Lucille was preceded in death by her parents, brother Harry Lee Vaughn and sister Frances Boulden.
She leaves to cherish her memory, sons, Darryl A. Hamilton Sr (Angela) and Lanier Hamilton, daughter, Monica L. Hamilton-McVay, brothers, Leonard P. Vaughn (Peggy), Howard R. Vaughn (Roy), Sister, Shirley Price, sister-in-law, Jerri Vaughn, six grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends, neighbors, Roger Bryant (Linda/deceased), Phillip and Mary Gable, Bill (Toni) and her church family.
