Mona Gray, age 68, of Canton, Ohio, transitioned into conscious rest in the presence of Jesus Christ on March 23, 2021. She was the first of six children born to the late Harry and Naomi Torrence.
Mona accepted Jesus Christ as her personal Savior at an early age. Through her relationship with God, she faithfully nurtured and instructed her two children in the ways of The Lord. She lived by Joshua 24:15, “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord”.
Mona, a naturally born nurturer of children, not only parented her own children into adulthood, but demonstrated love, acceptance, and encouragement to more than 25 foster children in over 10 years as a foster parent.
Mona’s genuine love and concern for others impacted the lives of many, including family members, friends and co-workers.
An active member of Bethel C.M.E. Church for many years and later Faith Family Church, Mona’s faith-walk with the Lord grew strong. She enjoyed participating in small Bible study discussions, prayer groups, and actively serving others.
A life-long resident of Canton, Mona was a graduate of McKinley High School. She started working at age 16 for the Timken Company, and later for the Nationwide Insurance Company until her retirement in 2007.
Mona is preceded in death by her parents and brother, Phillip Torrence.
Cherished memories and a strong legacy are survived through her two children, Chantel (Magnum) Davis; and Shannon (Asia) Gray of Chicago Illinois; brother, Victor Torrence; sisters, Helen (John) Carter; Pamela Davis; Lydia (Kenny) Boniaby; sister-in-law, Cheryl Torrence; and a host of relatives and close friends.
