MARY HASLEM-BELL Obituary

Mary Lizzie (Haslem) Bell affectionately known as “Babysister”, was born August 11, 1952. She transitioned on February 3, 2024.

She was the oldest twin daughter of Calvin Haslem, Sr., and Mary Jane Haslem. She graduated from North High School in 1971. Mary was employed by the Ohio Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for many years, retiring in June 2004. She was raised as a part of the Elizabeth Missionary Baptist Church family.

Mary was joined in Holy Matrimony to William E. (Scrapper) Bell, Sr. in June 1993. Together they enjoyed hosting many family gatherings. Mary enjoyed playing and was exceptionally good at card games, board games, puzzles, and game shows. She enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her children and grandchildren, who affectionately called her “My Mom.”

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, William E. Bell, Sr., parents, Calvin Sr. and Mary Jane Haslem, sister, Ruthie A. Haslem, and two granddaughters, Emmonie C. Parham and Savannah J. Haslem, brother-in-law, Willie J. Smith, and nephew, Ryan Johnson.

She is survived by her daughters, Demetria (George) Woods, LaReda Haslem, and Melinda (Charles) Graham; sisters, her twin Mary E. Johnson, Bettye Ferguson, Gwen Smith, and Willie Ruth (Chuckie) Porter, brothers, Calvin Haslem Jr., and Teddie Haslem; and special brother Keith Johnson.

Mary is also survived by her six grandchildren, Christopher Smith, Christina Smith, Robert Lewis, Jr., Eric Allen, Jr., Christopher Parham, Jr., and Adonis Burris; two great-grandchildren, Cevyn Lewis and Heaven Parham, and a host of other family and friends.

Mary touched many lives with her love. Her welcoming nature, her laugh and fun-loving spirit will be missed by all who knew her.
