MADELYN MARTIN Obituary

Madelyn Geneva Martin transitioned peacefully to her heavenly home on Monday, February 26, 2024 at her residence. She was born March 1, 1944 to the late Richard D. Moore and Willie Mae Henry Moore in Enid, Oklahoma and grew up in Tallahassee, Florida. She accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She attended and graduated from Carter- Parramore High School in 1963. On August 27, 1963 she married James A. Martin and from this union three children were born.

Madelyn worked 30 years in the Akron community in various roles such as teacher's aide, daycare worker, home-health aide to the elderly, a certified lay counselor, and a dry cleaner. In these roles, she was able to pursue her passion for helping and interacting with others. As a result, she was well-known in the community and loved by all that she served.

Personally, Madelyn was a compassionate woman with an empathetic listening ear to those who were hurting. She would offer a helping hand when she saw a need no matter how great or small.

She enjoyed entertaining and socializing with family and friends. She would cook for various holidays, gatherings, fellowships with the church, etc. Also, Madelyn enjoyed the outdoors, hunting with her dad and brothers, fishing with her buddies, and traveling with family and friends.

Most importantly, she loved talking about Jesus Christ and was not ashamed to share the Gospel nor expressing her praise and worship to Him whether in song or dance. She was known for her amazing singing voice and being an integral part of the House of the Lord's music ministry. She had a great appreciation for gospel music being influenced by Mahalia Jackson. She had a heart for prayer and would intercede for many. Madelyn loved her children, enjoyed playing games with them, taking them to various outings, and just having fun with them. She was a loving mom not only to her own children but many of the children of her community.

Madelyn was preceded in death by her parents, brothers James Henry, Theotis Moore, and Archie Moore. She leaves to celebrate her life, love and legacy, children Quintonia (Patrick) McKay of Kinston, North Carolina, Sheryl Martin of Akron, Ohio, Eric (Wanda) Martin of Barberton, Ohio; three grandchildren Zoe-Lanese Martin, Shanequa (Robert) Johnson, and Robar Gray; one great-grandson Ayden Gray; brothers Charles (Mary) Moore of Spring Valley, New York and Rodney Moore of Spring Valley, New York; nephews, Michael Moore, Christopher Moore, and Sean Moore; nieces Anissa Henry and Deandrea Moore; and "special family members" the Chenault Family, Harvey and Michelle Bryant, Steven Porpora, and a host of relatives and friends.
