Lourenthia Waters, was affectionately known as ‘Bootsie” by all that had the pleasure of knowing her. Those that loved her and ache with her passing knew her by the other titles that she held – Mother, Sister, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, Aunt and Friend.
Bootsie was born on March 30, 1946, in Akron, Ohio to Lillie and Charles Waters. She departed this life on Sunday, September 10, 2023, at the age of 77.
She was born and raised on the North Side of Akron. She attended Akron Public Schools and graduated from North High School, Class of 1964. In her earlier years, she served as a volunteer cheerleading coach for the Elizabeth Park Football Association. She worked at Cuyahoga Falls General Hospital in culinary and retired after 35+ years of dedicated service.
Bootsie had a fun but quiet spirit and was very loving, giving, and kindhearted. She would give you her last if you needed it. She was an avid sports fan and loved listening to old school music. Hand dancing was her favorite. She truly loved family -- and the family truly loved her. She looked forward to entertaining and freely opening her home for holiday celebrations and birthday gatherings. Thanksgiving and Christmas were always special times of family love and fellowship that everyone eagerly looked forward to. The laughter, reminiscing and wonderful memories will forever remain in the hearts of her loved ones.
Bootsie was proceeded in death by her parents, Brother Charles Waters and Sister Carol Waters. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, son, Leon (Evangelina) Melton of Glen Burnie, MD; Brothers Raymond (Gwen) Waters, Cheo Akili, and Madu Bakari of Akron; Sisters Sylvia Davis, Vickie Watters of Akron; Margo Watters of Arlington, VA and Deborah (Kevin) Blackburn of Oakland, CA; Six Grandchildren, Danielle Melton, Dante Melton, Tyra Melton, Tylah Melton, Leilani Melton and Leon Melton II. One Great-Granddaughter, London Melton, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
