Latricia Ann McDowell, affectionately known as “Chief,” was born on April 19, 1954. She lived as a teacher of life—honest, loyal, strong in truth, and devoted to family above all else. Chief’s love was bold, unapologetic, and real. If she corrected you, it was because she cared. If she loved you, she loved you fiercely. Chief was preceded in death by her father Albert L. Joyce, her mother Charlie Lee Reese, and her sisters Linda Reese and Alice (Robert) Johnson. She leaves to cherish her memory her children: Charmaine (Cliffton) McDowell-Morrison, Sonya Hall, David I. McDowell Jr., Jashika Robinson, and Tatianna Johnson. She also leaves her grandchildren: Jasmine (Uli) Linder, L’niarae (Kory Ricketts) Blevins, Nascir I. McDowell, Xavion McDowell-Morrison, Henderson “Scooter” Gardner, and Kalven Johnson-Santa Cruz. Her spirit continues through her great-grandchildren: Nei’Amanie McDowell and Na’ Aliyah McDowell. Chief was a mother to many, a friend to everyone, a keeper of secrets, and the voice people turned to for truth. She stood firm in love, protected those she cared for, and gave guidance that shaped lives. Her home, her arms, and her heart were open. Chief requested a celebration of her life surrounded by loved ones, laughter, and remembrance. Today, we honor her wishes with gratitude, stories, and joy. Special acknowledgements are extended to: The McNair Family, The Reese Family, Michael Steven’s, Anthony Freeman, Vicky Hall, Patricia “Patty” Knuckles, Starla McNair, Sharon “Neicy” Ballard (“Neice”), and ALL of The Ladies on The Move! A heartfelt "thank you" to Layzon Robinson.
