JOHN JIVENS, JR. Obituary

John Herman Jivens,  Jr.  was born at Walter Reed hospital in Washington DC on March 5, 1958. He was the youngest of two children born to John and Gertrude Jivens. A proponent of hard work, he got his first job as a paperboy. He was a part of the inaugural four year class of the School Without Walls, graduating in 1975. He received his Bachelor’s degree from Howard University (1981) and a Master’s in Education (1996) and a Master’s in Business (1993) from the University of Akron. John was an active member of numerous professional and civic organizations including the Bloody Xi Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated, of which he is most proud. He also help found the Canton Alumni Chapter of Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Incorporated. John was very active in his local community. He loved photography, using his talents as a long time photo journalist for The Reporter. He was also involved with Kids Summit, Heads Up, Upward Bound. He also served on the local board of Boys Scouts. John loved sports. As a DC native, he was a life long fan of the Washington Commanders. He was a fan of the Los Angeles Lakers as well as the Cleveland Cavaliers. An avid baseball fan, he loved the Atlanta Braves, Cleveland Guardians, and his Washington Nationals. He spent many days watching sports at the house and traveling with his sons to various sporting events all over the U. S. He was preceded in death by father John H. Jivens, Sr. and his mother Gertrude Jivens. He leaves to mourn his wife Carol Jivens and two sons, John III (Sheri) and J. Milan (Amelia). He is also survived by his older sister Grace McRae (Michael) of Bowie, MD. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
