JESSE JONES Obituary

Jesse Jake Jones, 92, passed away peacefully at 11:00 PM on Thursday, September 23, 2021 at Astoria Nursing Home after a brief illness.  Jesse was born on August 27, 1929 to the late Joseph and Sallie Jones.  After some time, he and several of his siblings migrated to Canton, OH.

Jesse was a proud graduate of Canton McKinley where he played football.  He was drafted into the Army in 1951.  During his time in the     Army, he spent 18 months in Germany as part of the Special Service Football Team.  He later received an Honorable Discharge from the    Army.  As a young man, Jesse was hired at the Timken Co. where he worked for over 40 years to support, and take care of his family.

Jesse loved learning the Spanish language, listening to Cuban music and talking about Old Cherry Street.  He was also very good at drawing.   He really loved to travel, and was a world traveler/explorer.  His travels took him to places such as:  Bahamas, Jamaica, Aruba, Haiti, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Honduras, San Salvador, El Salvador, Caracas, Guatemala City and San Antonio, where he saw the Alamo.  He also traveled to Mexico 9 times, and would stay in a village with friends.  Jesse went to the 1968 Olympics in Mexico City.

Jesse was most of all a loving husband, father and grandfather.  He was a fierce protector, and a wall of strength.  His mind was set on taking care of his wife and kids, and that, he always did.

In addition to his parents, Jesse is preceded in death by his (4) brothers, George Edward, Joseph Jr., Charles and John (Beulah) Jones; (4) sisters, Cherry Jones, Juanita (William) Goodman, Catherine Jones, and Hattie (David) Elliott; (1) brother-in-law, Gregory Ladson; and Pet Dog, Tiger Jones.

Jesse  is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 52 years, Carolyn Ladson Jones; son, Jesse (Latoya) Jones; daughter, Carla Jones; granddaughter, Jessica Jones; grandson, Myrell Smith, sister, Annabell Jones; brother-in-law, John Ladson; sister-in-law, Connie Ladson; pet dog, Prince Jones.  Jesse also leaves behind a host of nieces and nephews, special caretaker, Janet Batiste, and longtime friend, Jesse Byrd.
