Hazel V. Smith went Home to be with the Lord on March 15, 2023, at Timberland Ridge Skilled Nursing Facility. She was born in Gloster, Mississippi on April 13, 1933. She retired from Ohio Edison after 24 year of dedicated service, last working in 1995. She loved the outdoors when it came to planting flowers and landscaping; always receiving The Beautification Award through the City of Akron. She also enjoyed taking trips to Las Vegas and attending events with the Joyful Seniors Club. She was a member of the Church of Annunciation (Visitation of Mary Parish) for over 50 years.
Hazel was the eldest of 10 children and was frequently referred to as "The Queen". Her beautiful smile would light up the room and her love and passion for her family and friends will be deeply missed.
Hazel was preceded in death by her parents, Booker T. Whittington and Katie Selmon; husband, Harvey J. Smith, Sr.; sisters, Rose Williams and Betty Jo Daniels; and brother, Robert Selmon.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her devoted daughter, Leslie A. Smith of Sterling Heights, Michigan and Clarice and Betty of Akron; son, Harvey J. Smith Jr. (Bobbi) of Akron, Ohio; siblings, Calvin Selmon of Mississippi, Charles Selmon of Michigan and George Selmon of California; special companion, Clarence Dorsey; devoted granddaughter, Aisha (Dinell); grandchildren, Michelle, Nathaniel (Barb), Shayna (Maurice) and Harvey Smith, lll; her pride and joy great-granddaughter, Aria and great grandson, Truth; special family the Dorsey's (Teresa), Clarence, Karen and Kim) special friends, Peggy and William Cummings and Mrs. Mamie Davis; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
