GARLAND L. STOKES “TOSS 1 UP”

Garland ("Toss 1 Up") Stokes completed his life’s journey to join his heavenly father on August 18, 2020 at Bath Manor. He was the oldest son born to George and Patricia Stokes on August 28, 1955. 

Garland graduated from Garfield High School in 1974 and continued on to complete his journeymanship as an operating engineer. He was also employed several years as an Ironworker in Houston, TX. At the time of his death, he was employed by Chrysler LLC as a Millwright in Kokomo, IN Engine Plant - UAW 685. 

Garland was united in Holy matrimony to Renee Dancy Stokes in 1982. He commuted weekly from Kokomo, IN to care for his lovely wife, who transitioned in 2014. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends. 

Garland loved wearing his sunglasses year-round, paired with a 3 piece suit, gators, and a matching hat. Garland always left a lasting impression as he was always the life of the party and could spark a conversation with anyone. He made daily rounds in his Cadillac (named Pearl) to the Al-Kaf with the boys and took annual trips to the Jazz Festival every year with his wife. Some of Garland’s favorite lines include: “What’s up baby girl” or “Hey, listen here”. Garland’s charming presence and humorous personality will be missed most by friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Renee Dancy Stokes; Parents, George and Patricia Stokes; Grandparents, John Campbell and LaDessa Campbell, William Stokes and Mattie Stokes; In= Laws, James Dancy, Betty Dancy; Brother In-Law Jimmy Dancy.
