FLOYD WILKES, JR.

Floyd Wilkes, Jr., age 88, passed away November 17, 2025, with his loving family by his side.

Born on December 23, 1937 in Rendville, Ohio, to Alberta and Floyd Wilkes, Sr., he grew up with strong family values and a love for community.  A proud graduate of Corning High School, he was celebrated as an outstanding basketball player, leading the team to a State Championship.

In 1960, Floyd moved to Akron, Ohio, where he built a new chapter of his life. He honorably served his country as a veteran of the United States Armed Forces, dedicating two years to military service.

He began his career at Barefoot Sole, where he worked until its closing, and later retired from Midwest Rubber Company, in Barberton, Ohio, serving faithfully in the compound as a tow motor driver.  Throughout his career, he earned the admiration of his colleagues, who remembered him as a generous man, always willing to lend a hand to those in need.

His legacy is one of kindness, dedication, and quiet strength-qualities that touched the lives of everyone who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Alberta and Floyd Wilkes, Sr.; daughters, Ruth (Robert) Butts, and Flo Wilkes; brothers, Donald (Celie) Wilkes, Robert (Barbara) Wilkes, Larry Wilkes, and Peyton Wilkes; son, Deszi (Sarita) Burley.

Floyd leaves to cherish his memory, children, Diane Burley, Michael (Angela) Burley, Debbie Williams, John (Rhoda) Burley, Tonya (Andy) Daniels of Mobile, Alabama, Flora Wilkes, Karla (Billy) Dancy, Lora (Steve) Barclay, Floyd Wilkes III, Shauntay Jeffery, Latoya Jeffery, and Brittney Jeffery; granddaughter, Darla Burley, whom he raised as his daughter; brother, Clyde (Kathy) Wilkes of Columbus, Ohio; sisters, Barbara (Thomas) Truss, and Sue (Bennie) Towns, both of Columbus, Ohio, and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. special friend and caregiver, Elma Jones.
