Evan was born February 3rd, 1954 in Guyana at Georgetown public hospital to Joseph McCurdy and Hilda Gordon and raised in the village of Buxton. His childhood was filled with friendship, love, sports and adventure. After graduation he received his certification as a plumber and started his own business after moving up to Matthew’s Ridge in 1974.
He made the journey to America in January 1979, and began to make a life for himself, working, making friends, and falling in love. He married the love of his life, Maria in January 1981, and had one child, Willis. After obtaining his degree, Evan began his career as an electrical engineer and left a major impression everywhere he worked due to his work ethic, brilliance, humor, and leadership.
Evan was a loving husband, father, brother and uncle. He loved hosting holidays, talking politics and sports, cooking, watching movies, and more than anything, reading.
Evan departed this life on September 12th 2020, after a brief battle with cancer.
He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph McCurdy, his mother in law, Christine Willis, his father in law, Clarence Willis, and his surrogate son Jarrord Underwood.
He is survived by his mother, Hilda Gordon, his brother, Malcolm Gordon (Lorna), sister Lorraine Blackman, his wife Maria, his sisters-in-law Priscilla Spencer and Sandra Edwards, his brother-in-law Jeffrey Willis, his son Willis, and a host of nieces and nephews.
