Donald Stephen Carrington began his life on November 15, 1939, at 837 Carpenter Street, Akron, OH 44310 to Clarence Carrington of Roanoke, Virginia and Grace Naomi Smith of Akron, Ohio. At age 83, he answered and accepted the call to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on October 25, 2023.
He graduated from East High School in 1958 where he was a part of the choir, basketball, and baseball team. Upon graduation, he joined the US Navy where he honorably served from 1958 to 1962 as a Culinary Chef and ranking as a Commissary Seaman.
After leaving the Navy, he married Ellamae Matthews and together they raised three daughters.
Donald S. Carrington, along with his family, attended Livingstone Apostolic Church under the leadership of Elder Bryant, then Elder Gregory, for many years. Donald accepted the Lord as his savior at an early age and lived his life producing fruits of the spirit. Donald served as the choir director, assistant superintendent of Sunday School and was the go-to cook for most dinners both at the church and in his home for visiting pastors and their families. Donald knew no strangers and he treated everyone the same.
Donald had a host of jobs including Goodrich Rubber Company, Akron Public School working at North High School and Buchtel High School, Metzgers and having worked last at Rhoden Memorial Funeral Home, just to name a few.
Donald enjoyed a host of activities including coaching baseball, playing bid whist, hand dancing, having a keen ear for music and an avid fan of Cleveland sports including watching and yelling at the Cleveland Browns. He enjoyed hanging out with his friends and going to the HBCU Classics in Indiana. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family.
Proceeded by death Parents Clarence and Grace Naomi - Carrington, brothers Kenneth Eugene (Willie O), Wesley Gerald, former wife Ellamae Carrington, and baby girl.
He leaves to cherish his memory and carry on his legacy Daughters Ella (Alvin) Zebbs of Frisco Texas, TaWanda Johnson (Elsea Guido) of Florissant Missouri, Jodie West of Canton, OH. Grandsons Joshua (Nia) Graham, Jordan Hooks (Stephane Isais), Carrington (Jessica) West, Rollin Carrington (LaTaliyah Parks), Jasmine (Brittany) Erves, Janay West, Taylor Carrington, Jalea West (Desmond Shephard), Great-grandkids Julian, Jaeyona, Jada, Jacie, Jia, Jio, Nova, Jaeyona, Jacobey, Carson, Alecia, Cameron, Isabella, Payton, Paxton, Brother, Michael (Peggy) Carrington, Sister in Love Joyce Carrington, Alverna Matthews, Shirley Matthews, Brother in Love John Henry (Kathy) Matthews, Special Companion Gloria Goodwell, and her children Gina Gould and Garret Daggett, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends, the crew, Waymon, Preston, Lance, March, Malcum, Tron, Desmond and Mike.
