DeRock Rios, 30, of Akron, OH, formerly of Canton, Ohio passed away on Sunday, June 21, 2020. DeRock was born in Youngstown, Ohio to Joy Lynn Proctor Rios on April 19, 1990. He was raised by his maternal Aunt, Joan M. McCollough (of Canton, OH). He graduated from Washington High School in Massillon, Ohio and went on to graduate with his certificate in Drafting from the Hope Valley School System. And was working on his certification as a carpenter through New Castle School of Trades.
He had an excellent mind with many entrepreneurial ideas and dreams he was working towards. He loved to swim, wanted deeply to play sports, be a life guard and many other things that his sickle cell did not permit. The one thing the sickle cell couldn’t take away from him was his huge love for his children, family friend and people in general. He was a jokester and his infectious laugh is sorely missed already. He was laid back, rarely ever complained and although he suffered a lot, he always had an uplifting word to share. He had no shame sharing about the Lord, whom he was walking closer with every day and now rejoicing in Heaven with a new body, no more pain, physical or otherwise. The pain of not being able to be in his children’s lives to the capacity he wanted to be was the biggest hurt in life. He was applauded and acknowledged for his tutoring of grown men, helping them obtain their diplomas/GED’s. He was an amazing son, wonderful brother, loving father, helpful and loving grandson. He was the best friend any of us could have had the privilege of having. He is already sorely missed and greatly loved.
DeRock is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Richard M. Proctor; uncles Peter A. and Gregory A. Proctor.
He leaves as his legacy, five children, Naomi Aniya Rios, Brentson Tipton, DeRock Rios, Jr., Giovanni Joseph Rios, and Ariana Ellis; mother, Joy L. Proctor Rios of Akron; maternal grandmother, A.
