CHRISTINE MOBLEY

Christine Mobley, age 94 of Akron, Ohio , departed this life on May 22, 2021 at Hickory Ridge Nursing Home after an extended illness.         

Christine was born and raised in Akron, Ohio, the second oldest child  to the late Mr. Chester and  Mrs. Inez Grundy on April 6, 1927.  

While attending the 12th grade at East High School, she began working at Mayflower Hotel to help support her mother and father.

After high school, she was united in holy matrimony to William E. Mobley on January 26, 1948. William used to watch Christine walk to school every day when he lived at 1164 Duane Avenue and   she lived at 1191 Duane Avenue.  To this union, three children were born: Phyliss Marie, Gregory Wayne, and Sheila Lynn. Christine was most proud of her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.  They are what brought her the most joy and purpose in life other than the Lord. 

Known as a lifetime resident of Akron, she was called a hardworking woman.  She served more than  53 years of employment, having last worked at Ohio Bell reaching 24 years of service in retirement.  At an early age, she became a member of Greater Bethel Baptist Church under its 5th  pastor, Reverend  Gordon A. Humphrey Jr., with years later as a member who joined Zion Temple Baptist Church until her health prevented her attendance. 

Christine’s passion was spreading the WORD of encouragement and putting a smile on your face by making you laugh.  She was also best known for waking everyone up in the household for morning breakfast, which would consist of: sausage, cheese eggs, bacon, biscuits, hash brown potatoes, grits   and rice, onions, gravy, orange juice, and coffee all in one meal.  Christine’s children lovingly expressed “Mom, we cannot thank God enough for every moment that He shared you in our lives.  We all, including our friends, truly believe there are Angels to the extent for all who loved you dearly feel that you were an “ANGEL”.  “You will truly be missed and we love you so much!”

In addition to her parents, Christine was preceded in death by her  husband, William E. Mobley;  first child, Phyliss Marie; her siblings: brother, AC Grundy (Daisy); sister, Merdis L. Strong (Floyd); brother, William Grundy; sister, Idalene Dove (Robert Eugene); brother, Alton Grundy; other relatives and close friends, Thelma Payne, Cleomia Respress, and Juanita S. Spencer.

Her memories will be cherished by her children, Gregory W. Mobley (Teverious), Sheila L. Fitch (Gerald); (4) grandchildren, Shelon L. Douglas, De’Anna Mobley, Ursula Harris, and grandson Dexter Mitchell; (3) great grandchildren, Dylon Douglas, Je’Nae Kinslow, and London Douglas; sisters-in-law, Beatrice and Louise Grundy, as well as a host of other relatives and close friends.
