Our beloved Cherry Lou Glenn, age 82 of Akron Ohio departed for her heavenly home on Monday, September 20, 2021.
Born July 28, 1939, to Walter and Leola Malone in Brooksville, Mississippi, Cherry was the sixth born of ten children. She started her motherly duties at the early age of four where she could be seen on a step stool at the stove cooking. While growing up, Cherry starred in school plays and played basketball until she left school to help run the family farm. She met the love of her life, Charlie Glenn, at Mount Avery Baptist church. She married him in 1956, and they moved to Akron, Ohio in 1957. She dedicated her life to her soulmate of 62 years and raising their five children, and caring for her extended family and friends. Cherry loved singing, praising and serving the Lord. She was a faithful member of Mount Olive Baptist church.
Cherry enjoyed gardening with her husband where they grew the best cabbage, collard greens and green beans. She also was a great cook and known for her homemade biscuits, caramel cake, and butter rolls. She was a sports enthusiast, devoted to supporting all five of her children and all ten of her grandchildren’s sporting events. She loved rooting on the Cleveland Browns and Indians as well the Cavs and Lakers. She also enjoyed game shows and Hallmark movies. She relished her evening Bible studies with her sisters Bettie and Lula Malone, and niece, Nicki Malone. Her voice will forever echo in our hearts the spiritual songs that she would sing at any given family time or phone conversation. Cherry leaves a legacy of the love of the Lord, and she taught all who knew her the strong values of putting God first, honoring your mother and father, caring for your family, discipline, commitment, and keeping your word. She modeled honesty, generosity and strength. She instilled the importance of education, a hope for a better life for her children, and the ethic that hard work will pay off. She defined what family tradition is and how to overcome adversity. Cherry’s cheerful personality lit up a room and filled all with joy with her gift of storytelling. She will be remembered as the matriarch of the family and community and be forever treasured.
