Charles Akens Moore Sr., 91, transitioned to the next life on February 1, 2019 at his resdence at the McKinley Center in Canton, OH. Charles was born on Sunday, January 8, 1928 to Ward and Emmaline (Akens) Moore in Dover, OH.He often told stories of fond memories growing up on the family farm with his parents and siblings and of life in his hometown of Dover. Charles left home at the age of 16 to pursue his love of boxing. He went to Detroit first and trained at the famous Kronk gym. He moved on to box professionally in Chicago. On a trip home to Canton, Ohio he met the lovely, Vernelia May Burch who soon became his wife. Charles was employed by United Engineering as a machinist and also worked at the Timcken Roller Bearing Company for many years. Additionally he ran a construction business working on several businesses and homes in the city of Canton. Mr. Moore had a passion for his family and sports and supported his children as well as many neighborhood children in football and cheerleading events. Charles had the gift of gab and never met a stranger. He loved socializing and dancing and would frequent the Canton Negro Old-timers and Hob Knob when he was able. He leaves his children, Dwight D Burch Sr., Charles A Moore Jr., Lynn V. Moore, Linda V. (Hugh) Simpson, Janine M. Moore, Justina M (Lorenzo) Bagley, Kirk M (Jotwyla) Moore and Kevin M (Heather) Moore; and his sister Sarah Moore Spencer. A host of grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Vernelia May Moore; siblings, Cottrell Moore, William (Bill) Moore, Blaine Moore Sr., Wilma Moore, Dorothy Moore Blakely and Mildred Moore Walters. As well as several nieces and nephews, and 2 grandchildren.
