CARRIE RODGERS Obituary

Mother Carrie Lee Rodgers (90), transitioned into the arms of Jesus on Monday, September 15, 2025 in the comfort of her home. Carrie was born on July 19, 1935 in Meadville, MS, to the late Ms. Ella Smith and Mr. Leonard Jones. She was the youngest of seven children and received her early education through the Meadville school system.

Carrie accepted Christ at an early age at Pine Ridge Baptist Church in Meadville, MS under the leadership of Rev. Carter. She sang in small quartet groups in her adolescence and as a soloist, using her gift to glorify God. On May 1, 1951, Carrie was joined in holy matrimony to Carrel Rodgers, in Meadville, MS. She later moved to Ohio with her husband and children in 1957. For 59 years, they shared an immeasurable love, demonstrated through their life together. From this union, five beautiful children were born.

After 35 years of service, Carrie retired from Valley View (now Hickory Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center), where she touched countless lives with her care and kindness. She found joy in cheering for her beloved Cleveland teams; the Cavaliers, Browns, and Guardians. It was rare to find her missing a game, no matter the score. Mother Rodgers was known for her cooking and legendary pound cakes. She loved her bacon, especially from Sam’s Club. But beyond the kitchen, she had a quiet wisdom that drew people in. She was a thoughtful listener, someone you could talk to about anything, and never overstepped her boundaries. Her advice was always honest, sound, and intentional which left a lasting impact on all who knew her. Mother Rodgers had a deep and abiding love for her grandchildren, cherishing every moment spent with them. She was a devoted and longtime member of Frank Avenue Worship Center (formerly Frank Avenue C.O.G.I.C.), where she faithfully served on the Mother’s Board, and as the Church Mother for the last 15 years. She loved gospel music, specifically quartet. Her favorite group, Roy & Revelation, held a special place in her heart. She answered that final call and now sings forever in Heaven’s perfect harmony.

Mother Rodgers was preceded in death by her husband Carrel Rodgers; parents Ella Smith and Leonard Jones; beloved sons Adolph ”Doc” Rodgers and John E. “Tweet” Rodgers; sisters Lula M. Hall, and Annie M. Jones; brothers Jessie Gills, K.C. Anderson, John Anderson, and Albert J. Burks.

She leaves to continue her legacy; her children, Louis Edward (Goldie) Rodgers of Las Vegas, NV, Diane Rodgers, and Marilyn Faye Rodgers of Akron Ohio; brothers Rev. Louis Jones of SanJose, CA; and Joe Jones of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Alonzo Karriel, David, Kyle, Marcus, Kari Le’Angel, Andre, Christopher, and Dr. Sharon L. Bethea, PhD; great-grandchildren Linda Fay (Precious), Kyliesha, Kyle Jr. (ManMan), T’Aavi, Marcus Jr. (MJ), Andre Jr., Chantelle, and Katelynne. Two great-great grandchildren, 12 bonus great-great grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
