Brenda Joyce Backie-Boykin, went home to rest with the Lord on Monday, August 31, 2020. Brenda was born October 27, 1947 to the late Calip and Carole Backie. She was a graduate of McKinley High School. Brenda retired from The Hoover Company after 32 years of service, and from Canton City Schools (Gibbs Elementary) after 11 years of service. Where she was known to ALL the children as “Grandma”. Brenda loved children, and children loved her.
Brenda loved to help in any capacity where she was needed. Brenda was a member of Deliverance Christian Church and served on the Deaconess Board, Kitchen Ministry, Food Pantry, Emergency Response Team, and assisted with the Dramatic Arts Ministry. In her early years at Deliverance Cristian Church, she served as a faithful Choir Member. Brenda also served for many years in the Community as a volunteer for the Pro Football Hall of Fame Queens Committee.
Brenda was preceded in death by her sister Jerrel “Tee” Backie; brothers, Terry and Raleigh Backie; sister, Rhonda Backie- Brown.
She leaves to cherish her memory: daughters, Sharonda T. Johnson (Claude), and Brandi C. Boykin; sisters, Norma J. Morris, Elder Renee Backie, and Willa Dean Backie; granddaughters, Asia Marche and A’Lexus Chantel Boykin; sister- in-law, Vicki Backie; brother-in-law, Pastor William Brown; longtime and very loving friend for over 50 years, Josephine Haywood from Huntsville Alabama. A host of nieces, nephews, great-nieces, and great- nephews.
