Betty Jean Fortson went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, December 18, 2024 after an extended illness and short stay in the Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU) of University Hospital in Cleveland, Ohio.
Betty was born to the union of Hortense and Edwin “Bodily” Fortson on June 2, 1958 in Ravenna, Ohio. She was next to the youngest girl, the “knee Baby” of 8 siblings.
Growing up in Ravenna as a young girl, Betty relocated to Akron, Ohio soon after her Mother passed away. She attended school in the Akron Public School System.
Betty affectionately known as Sookie was blessed with three beautiful children a daughter and two sons: Nicole, Dwayne, and Brown.
Betty Jean was preceded in death by her parents: Hortense and Edwin Fortson, Stepmother: Eleanor Brown Fortson, Brother: Lindell Brown, Ezell Starks, Sisters: Mary Ann Maxwell, Edna May Fortson, Emma Dee Heller.
She leaves to cherish her memory Children: Nicole Tomlinson, Dwayne A. Tomlinson, Jr., Brown Hardon Knox all of Akron, Ohio. Grandchildren: Trevaugh Tomlinson, Jante McCray, Tatiyana Tomlinson, Damiante Meadows, Danaja Tomlinson, Xavier Prewitt, Airyonah Tomlinson, Lau’Nadica Britton, TeAujah Turneur, Terryl Turneur, Michael Brown Knox, Jazzmin Marie Knox, Karmella Jean Knox. Great Grandchildren: Charleigh Wilson, Tyree, Chip Wilson II, My’Angel Carr, My’Asiah Carr, Da’Kari Williams, Tavia Tomlinson,Miyana Tomlinson, LaNiyah, Lejend, Loyal’ti; Sisters: Mary Louise Bell of Ravenna, Ohio; Jessie Marie Brown of Warren, Ohio; Holly Kathleen Roper of Columbus, Ohio; Wynter (Michael) Walker of Palmdale, California; Brothers: Abdul Kareem Ar-Rasheed, William Eddie Brown of Warren, Ohio a host of Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives, and friends.
