Bernice Hannon was born in Skelton, West Virginia, to the proud parents of Ernest Whitlow, Sr. and Hattie Whitlow. Bernice was a graduate of STRATTON High School. Upon graduation, Bernice moved to New Jersey where she worked at a local candy shop. In 1951, Bernice returned to West Virginia where she then married Thomas E. Hannon, Sr., the two moved to Massillon, Ohio in 1952. Bernice was a devout member of Friendship Baptist Church. She was a past member of the Usher Board as well as a devoted mother to the church. She enjoyed working in the food pantry as well as an active member of the kitchen committee. She loved to cook and was always willing to lend a listening ear to all that came into contact with her.
Preceded in death by her husband, Thomas E. Hannon, Sr.; her parents; and three older siblings.
Bernice leaves behind her children: Veronica Hannon-Thrasher (James) of Elk Grove, California, Thomas E. Hannon, Jr. (Joyce) of Southfield, Michigan, Tab O. Hannon of Massillon, Ohio and Evan T. Hannon (Kristin) of Massillon, Ohio; granddaughters, Jerra V. Bowden of Tucson, Arizona and Morgan T. Hannon of Massillon, Ohio; brother, Ernest Whitlow of Carrollton, Georgia; and a host of family and friends to mourn her passing. She now joins her husband, where they can look down together at the family they have created with pride and joy. We will miss you but, now you are in a happier place. Rest in Heaven.
