BARBARA TORRENCE Obituary

Barbara Jean Torrence, affectionately known as “Barbie” of  Copley, OH, departed this life, February 9th, 2019 at the blessed age of 81. Barbaraa was born to Ellison and Annie Mae Marsh,  January 26th, 1938, in Akron, Ohio.  She attended East High School. Later she married Raymond Torrence on March 16, 1954, and they lived together in Copley, Ohio. She leaves as her legacy three children: Ray Torrence Sr., Keith Torrence (Dionne), and Sandee Torrence-Clayton (Ricky). Barbara also leaves to cherish her memory Earl Marsh (Brother), Barbara Clay (Sister), Ray Jr., Roy Torrence, Aregeros “Ducee” Turner (Grandsons), Tamiah Torrence, Janae Turner (Granddaughters), 12 Great grandchildren, Mary Brown (Exceptional Niece), and Annette Long (Special Friend), along with a host of amazing family members, friends, and acquaintances that touched her life. She was preceded in death by Raymond Torrence (Husband), Ellison and Annie Mae Marsh (Parents), George Burton, Theodore Burton, Bernice McCormick, Helen Brown, Ellis Marsh, William Marsh, Eugene Marsh, Jack Marsh, Emily Gilcreast (Siblings) and Virginia Torrence (Daughter in Law).Barbara was a well-respected Training Manager for Summa Health Systems before she retiring in 2013, after 44 years of service. She was passionate about bringing out the positivity in all people she encountered.  Barbie could be spotted in a crowd full of people by her fire red hair and a firecracker personality to match. Anywhere she went, she quickly made friends and would be known as the most generous person one could meet. Barbara was the epitome of the ideal wife, mother, and grandmother.  Her family and friends will greatly miss her—but she will always remain in their children and grandchildren impressing upon them the value and importance of family, a good education, and finances.Barbie was an avid shopper, gardener, party host and (as she would like to tell), a Blues Singer. Barbie was a part of the Booster Clubs for both Copley High School and South Rangers Peewee Association as well as being a devoted game goer for her children and grandchildren’s sporting events. She was also a member of St. Phillip’s Episcopal Church of Akron, OH, serving on the Women’s Guild.

The family requests that condolences and donations be sent to 1545 S. Plainview Dr., Copley, OH 44321.
