ADA MITCHELL Obituary

On June 22, 2018 , Ada Frances (Newsome) Mitchell, known to those who loved her best as Au Fraucious, ended an 83 year- long battle with Myasthenia Gravis and passed into the loving arms of her (and our) Savior, Jesus Christ.  She suffered much but never wavered from her love for God, others and her desire to be a help to others in times of their distress.  Ada was born September 14, 1934 to William and Mary Newsome in Canton, Ohio and grew up in Malvern, where she attended and graduated from High School in 1952.  She moved to Akron, Ohio where she began a life- long career in the insurance industry that spanned more than sixty years.  She began her career under the tutelage of William A. Burkes at the Domestic Life Insurance Co.  When Domestic was sold to Supreme Life Insurance, Ada worked for Supreme until her husband built up his independent insurance agency.  She then moved into the role of office manager and continued in that role until the ill health of her husband forced them to merge with Evans Insurance  Agency and close their office.  Ada worked there until her own health failed forcing her to retire.  During Ada’s sixty year career, she received many awards including an award from Evans  Insurance for fifty years of service in the insurance industry.  She also received the State of Ohio’s “Insurance Woman of the Year” award.  She received many other awards for public speaking and she wrote many of her husband’s speeches.  She participated in numerous Carnegie Institute classes and in contests in Toastmasters International, the Akron chapter, receiving many awards in the process.  She was a very active member of the Yokettes, the women’s auxiliary of The Frontiers Club of Akron.  Ada authored numerous poems, many written in tribute to others or to compliment, support, inspire, influence and to thank others.  Notable were her tributes to her mother, aunts and uncles and her medical caretakers.  Most of all, she valued her spiritual  community and activities as she cared for people and the things that were important to her  calling from God.  She loved participating in the choir and other activities where ever she was attending church and she loved her Wesley Temple AME Zion family, many who have preceded her into Heaven’s gates.  Ada also volunteered for the Myasthenia Gravis Foundation, belonging to the Ohio chapter.  She also volunteered with Grand Pal where she taught second graders how to write a proper letter at Seiberling Elementary School.  Ada was preceded in death by her husband Wesley L. Mitchell; her parents William and Mary Newsome; (3) brothers, Clyde L. Thompson, Joseph William and William E. Newsome and (1) sister, Gloria T. Thompson.  She is survived by (2) brothers, John H. and Bernard (Patricia) Newsome; (3) sisters, Wilhelmina (Polk) Wright, Marian Longshore and Madeline (Joseph) Burkes and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends including special friends, Carolyn Greer and Louise Ford.
