ABBIE HEAD Obituary

Abbie Jean Head took her last earthly breath in the hand and the presence of her sons Victor and David. Abbie was born June 14, 1930 to the late John Sam and Mattie Mae Jackson. She was the youngest of five children and a lifelong resident of Akron. Abbie grew up on the East side of Akron and attended Barber Elementary and graduated from East High School. She was employed at City Hospital in the pharmacy and then in the Akron Public Schools in the Food Service Department for many years before retiring. She accepted the Lord at a young age under the Pastorate of Rev. Charles Gladman Sr. As a faithful woman of God, she was a long-standing member of Morning Star Baptist Church until her passing. She shared her angelic singing voice as a part of a trio with her sisters, known as the Jackson Sisters and as a faithful member of the choir. Abbie was a powerful prayer warrior her entire life. In 1948, she married Freddie C. Head and to that union three sons were born. Her greatest joy was in being an excellent wife, devoted mother and homemaker. Fred and Abbie were married for 61 years. She was preceded in death by both of her parents, her eldest son, Frederick Head; her husband; her brothers, Robert T. Jackson and Irwin P. Jackson and her sister Ruby Parker. As her legacy she leaves two sons, Victor (Ethel) Head, David Head, both of Akron; her sister, Jewel Jones and sister-in-law Clyde Jackson, both of Akron; daughter-in-law Ella Head; daughters Lydia Wright Rucker and Dr Pastor Leslie Parker Barnes; grandchildren, Shontae Dunaway, Joseph Roberts, Lakita Head, Chris Head, great-grandson, Edward Dunaway, great-granddaughters, Ellisa Grant and Gina Roberts and great-great grandson, Easton Dunaway. To also cherish her memory Abbie leaves many beloved cousins, nieces, nephews and a host of wonderful friends that she came to know and love during her life’s journey.

The family would like to extend thanks to the staff at Akron General Medical Center Hospice care and Visiting Angels. Also special thanks to cousins Jeannine , Marva, Gwen, Lisa, Lydia, Leslie, Nancy, Sandra, Sheila, and Bernadine. A memorial service will be held at a later time.
