Obituary

Mrs. Yvonne Carpenter Grace passed from labor to reward Sunday, October 4, 2015, at Affinity Medical Center, with her family at her beside. Yvonne was born April 3, 1938 to the union of David and Emily Johnson, Sr. in Choctaw, West Baton Rouge, LA. She grew up in Alexandria, LA., where she accepted Christ at an early age and attended New Zion Baptist Church. Yvonne moved with her family to Massillon, Ohio in 1969. She met and married the late Morris Carpenter in the late 1950's. She later married the late Earnest Calvin Grace, Sr. on August 23, 1988. Collectively they raised twelve children. Shortly after relocating to Massillon, Yvonne joined the Friendship Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Joseph Sinclair. She sang in the choir and served on the Usher Board. She was a faithful member of Friendship until her health failed. Yvonne worked at Gibson Nursing Home for fifteen years. Her greatest joy in life was taking care of her family and friends. She had people, both young and old, who looked at her as a mother figure, too many to name or count. If you were hungry she fed you, needed clothing or even a place to rest she provided that too. She will be remembered for her kindness and unconditional love! Besides her spouses, she was preceded in death by her parents, one daughter, Doris Thomas; two brothers, Sylvester Johnson, Sr. and David Johnson, Jr. and one sister Vysey Johnson.
