Wanneese Walker's Obituary

Mrs. Wanneese Walker was born on March 11, 1932, in Pinola, Mississippi, the second of twelve children to the late Jay and Susie May. She became a longtime resident of the Akron community, where she built a life rooted in faith, family, and service. On the early morning of August 20, 2025, at the blessed age of 93, she peacefully answered God's call home, surrounded by her loving family. Mrs. Walker moved to Akron Ohio in 1953 on her honeymoon with the love of her life where she started her family and lived a life of dedication and hard work. She was employed at Town & Country Cleaners for eight years, then served in the Buchtel High School cafeterias from 1974 to 1978. She went on to work at Goodyear Aerospace from 1978 until her retirement in 1995. Beyond her work, she was a woman of faith who devoted herself to the Lord's service. She was a longtime member of Greater Bethel Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. William K. Hawkins, where she served faithfully as an usher. She was a member of the Interdenominational Church Ushers Association (ICUA) and the Order of the Eastern Star. Later, she became a member of Faith Missionary Baptist Church under the late Pastor Darrell Isaiah. For the past eight years, she worshipped at New Hope Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor David Nelson, where she served on the Mothers Board. She also enjoyed fellowship and service through the E.D. Davis program at the Lawton Street Community Center, attending faithfully every Thursday. She was known for her warm and caring spirit, her radiant smile that could brighten any room, and her tireless dedication to family and community. She was truly an angel on earth, and now she rests in the arms of her Savior, having heard the words, "Well done, thy good and faithful servant." Mrs. Walker was preceded in death by her parents, Jay and Susie May; her brothers, Ellis, Eddie, and Ozell May; sisters, Louise Vandiver, Lee Dampier, Trudy Montgomery and Ree Lockhart; and her grandson, Marlon D. Walker. She leaves to cherish her precious memory her devoted husband of 72 years, L.J. Walker; children, Frank Walker Sr., Barbara (Jerry) Williams, Diane Walker, Jerry (Alisa) Walker, and Subrena Walker; her special nephew-son, Juan May; and step-son, Lewis Rackley. She is also survived by her brothers, Odell May, James (Luegussie) May, and Donnal May; sisters, Ernestine Shepard and Elestine Higginbottom; and a host of beloved grandchildren, including Shelia (Vance) Woodall, Terry Millender, Damarios "Butchie" (Donna) Walker, Keasha Walker, Sherita Mills, Nikki Christian, Sharilissa Walker, Frankie Walker, Michael (Brandi) Mills, Paul "PJ" Johnson, Wanneese Johnson-Holland, Rachia (Roderick) Garrett, Louis "LJ" Walker Jr., Jerry (Sharday) Williams Jr., Cordell (Janae) Walker Sr., Phillip "LP" Fikes Jr., and Emory Rackley.
