Viva L. Cheek went home to be with the Lord April 28, 2015 at home. She was surrounded by her children. Viva was born in Ariton, Alabama on August 11, 1924. Viva is the daughter of Ed Lee and Novie Rodgers. She moved to Waynesburg at the age of 16. It was here where she met and married Paul W. Cheek and raised her children. Viva was a member of Asbury Chapel AME Church in Waynesburg. There she served on the Usher and Steward Boards. Viva loved gardening and working in her yard. Another of her favorite pastimes was listening to and watching the Cleveland Indians. Viva was preceded in death by her husband Paul W. Cheek, her parents Ed Lee and Novie Rodgers, mother and father-in-law Susie and Lawrence Cheek, brother Edmond Rodgers, brother –in-law Elkin Cheek, Sisters– in-law Annie and Beatrice Cheek, great grandson Michael E. Cheek Jr. Viva leaves to cherish her memory her son Michael (Veronica) Cheek of Canton, four daughters; Linda and Wanda Cheek of Canton, Paulette (Johnny) McClendon of Canton, and Suzan (Arvester) Lowe of Forest Lake, Minnesota, brothers-in-law; James (Ruth) Cheek, Lawrence (Marie) Cheek, Earl Cheek all of Canton, special cousins; Mavis Taylor, Jeanette Stevens and Catherine Miles, special friends; Aileene Henderson, Vera Kelley, and Bernadette Howell; Also leaving to cherish her loving memory, 19 grandchildren, 41 great- grandchildren, 13 great– great grandchildren, as well as a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.
