Virginia (Oliver)
Jamerson
March 22, 1928 – January 24, 2021
Virginia Jamerson (Oliver) was called home on January 24, 2021 and we celebrate her homegoing with the memory of her life. Born on March 22, 1928 to Henrietta Irene Booze and Walter Frederick Oliver in Canton, Ohio. Virginia graduated Canton McKinley High School in 1947, marrying William Shephard Jamerson in 1948. The couple went on to have, six (6) sons and one (1) daughter.
A member of Turner Chapel Methodist Church later re-established as James S. Thomas United Methodist Church; later becoming the Administrative Head of the church office after her retirement. She was the Executive Administrative Assistant to the Executive director of the Canton Urban League; prior to that she worked at the East Ohio Gas Company. When the church closed in 2019, Mt. Zion Church of God became her church home as she continued to faithfully serve. A member of the Canton, Ohio Chapter of the National Black Women's Leadership Caucus as the Secretary and Treasurer respectively, Virginia was a strong advocate of women's rights, voting rights and community development.
Preceded in death by siblings Marcella Powell, Gwendolyn Jordan, Clementine Moore, Louise Roberts, Etna Weatherspoon, Walter Oliver, and Gerald Oliver, ex-husband, Shephard, sons Wayne, Bernard, Bryon, and daughter, Deborah. Virginia leaves to mourn her passing, dear sons Wesley, Gary, and James (Jimmy), loving daughter-in law, Charlotte Jamerson, cherished grandchildren, Constance Varner (William) of Denver, Co., Deacon Franco Jamerson (Valecia), Robert Spike Jamerson, Antoinette M. McElroy , and Raeshawna Jamerson, fifteen great grandchildren and one great, great grandchild. Virginia also leaves to mourn her a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
We take pleasure and healing in her favorite spiritual, "Safe in His Arms" ….
"Because the Lord is my shepherd I have everything I need He lets me rest in the meadow's grass And He leads me besides the quiet stream
He restores my failing hands And helps me to do what honors That's why I'm safe
That's why I'm safe That's why I'm safe Safe in His arms
When the storm of life is raging And the billows roll So glad He shall hide me Safe in His arms
So glad, He shall hide me Safe in His arms"
The family thanks everyone for their condolences and outpouring of love.
