Obituary

Virgie Lee Otis-France, 84, took her heavenly flight on May 28, 2026. She was dearly loved by her son and daughter, her six siblings, her friends, and all... and I mean all.. of her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Born December 23, 1941, in Picayune, Mississippi, to Mary Moore and Clyde Otis, Sr., by a mid-wife. Since all births back then were to be recorded in the back of the Family Bible, and the birth certificate wasn't filed until a year later, our Mother used to tease that she could be one year older or one year younger. She worked at Hawthorne Brecksville Veterans Hospital in Cleveland for a number of years, and retired from the Brecksville Veterans Hospital after 20 years of service. Her retirement only gave her more time for what she loved: poker games, casinos, and Bingo-Bingo-Bingo, and did I say B-I-N-G-O!!!

She was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and Clyde Otis; her husband, Michael France; brother-in-law, Roland Wright; sisters-in-law, Florence Otis and Tanya Otis; grandson, Diamond Harris; nephews, Darnell curry, Lewis Craig Otis, Carlton Otis, Lawrence Wynn; great-nephew, DeCarlos Otis (Powe); father of Ronald and Michelle, J.B. Garrett, and longtime friend, Earl Thomas.Virgie is survived by and will be forever missed by her son, Ronald Otis (Akron); daughter, Michelle Otis (Columbus); brothers, Roosevelt Otis, Seve Wahi I, Dadisi Wahi ( all of Akron); sisters, Dorothy Wright (Akron), Trisha Williams (Massillon), Marie (Pastor Will) Robinson (Richmond Heights); grandchildren, Dontay "Pookee" Otis- her beloved caregiver, Jermaine Otis, Corvin Amos, Cory Amos (all of Akron), LaToya "Tootie" Harris and LaShell "Sookie" Lee (Columbus); great grandchildren, Braylen Espie and Jaeylen Espie (both of Akron), Lashaymarie "Scooby" Lee, Jaiona Lee, King, Lee, Ka'Mya Harris, Keontaye Harris, Christen Harris, and Mi'rell Middleton ( all of Columbus) Corvin Amos Jr. and Kyler Amos (both of Akron); great great grandchildren, Gimontae Bonds and Kaelynn Harris (both of Columbus); 13 nephews, 7 nieces, and more great nieces and nephews than she had fingers and toes.
