October 5, 1924 – May 2, 2021
Vera C. Dansby was born October 5, 1924 in the rural town of Sylvester, in Worth County Georgia. She was the sixth of eleven children born to Oscar and Eldora (Crawford) Greene.
Vera moved to Ohio and settled in Akron in 1940, where she was employed by Goodyear Aircraft until the end of World War II. In later years she was also employed as a poll worker for Summit County Board of Elections. In 1945, she married Isaac Dansby Jr. and was blessed with six children. That same year, she joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church, and in 1953 she and her growing family joined St. Philip Episcopal Parish where she remained an active member throughout the remainder of her life.
A dedicated wife and homemaker, Vera's passions were her abiding faith, her family, church life, gardening, sewing, and baking. In her spare time, she crafted beautiful handmade quilts using traditional patterns. She had a vivacious sense of humor and loved to hold court around her kitchen table.
