Obituary

Thomas Earl Blackwell, 51 years of age, passed away February 12, 2023, following a brief illness while holding Clara and Savannah's hands. Thomas was born on November 05, 1971, in Akron, Ohio to Thomas E. Mitchell and Linda Blackwell. He graduated from Buchtel High School in 1991 and attended Central State University where he played football. Thomas married his love of 36 years Clara on August 01, 1998, and to their union three beautiful children were born. Thomas had a love for the Lord and was a member of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church Akron, Ohio. His favorite scripture was Proverbs 3:5-6 "Trust in GOD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct your paths." Thomas was a loving and devoted husband, father, son, brother, uncle and friend. He was preceded in death by his grandparents Mildred and Eddie Shinholster, Edward and Katie Mitchell, Lucian Jr and Liz Blackwell, Uncles Douglass Conway, Lucian Blackwell III and Carson Blackwell Sr. He leaves to cherish his memory, his parents Linda Blackwell and Thomas Mitchell (Diane). His wife Clara Ann Blackwell, twin sons JeVonte (Zeddaya) Blackwell, DeVonte (Shamika) Blackwell and daughter Savannah (DeAndrae) Blackwell. Sisters Tami Blackwell, Deanna Mitchell and brother Wilson Mitchell. Grandchildren Zeus Blackwell, Samari Blackwell-Smith, Joy Blackwell and SiAire D. Blackwell. Special Aunts and Uncles; Dorthy (Morris) Cosey, Anthony (Karen) Blackwell, Doreen Blackwell, Celestine (Bobby) Blackwell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws, friends, most of Akron, OH (smile), and in his word's "international" friends. Thomas was a dedicated worker and a well-known entrepreneur. He worked at Joann Fabrics for 15 years. He later established his own cleaning company in 2013 named "What About Us Cleaning." Thomas was an active member of the Disciples Motorcycle Club with the biker's name "Dirty Work" and held the position of "Enforcer". Thomas loved to make TikTok recipes and signature drinks, coaching pee wee football and was a diehard Cleveland Browns and LA Lakers fan. Most recently, Thomas, Big Scott, ellgee330, and E. Wood established a podcast called "Take it or Leave it" talking about sports, politics and current news. In addition, Thomas and his son Jay were in the process of starting a trucking business called Blackwell Shipping Logistics. Tommy was a Mama's boy, his mom, Linda, treated him like the King he is. His little sister,Tami, would let you know "even though I'm the baby, my brother TT is my mom's favorite." Tommy was very close with his cousins growing up Pooh and Moose were like his brother and sister, they all looked out for each other. Thomas cherished his family and held a special bond with each of his children. His first born, Jay, his baby boy Dee, his daughter Bama (who is just like him) and his wife Clara" if you know, you know!" His Gbabies Zeus, Samari, Joy and SiAire were the light of his life, and we will all carry on his legacy. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. His energy was absorbed by everyone in the room. Football Sundays, 84' parties and Turkey Days will never be the same, but they will continue in his honor. He made everyone feel special. 'Life hit different' with him on your side, always keeping it real whether you liked it or not. The most genuine and humble man you will ever meet. Thomas will be remembered for many things. But most of all he will be remembered for how he made us feel. Thomas made us feel Loved Thomas made us feel Valued Thomas made us feel Comforted Thomas made us feel Protected Thomas made us feel Supported Thomas made us feel Blessed Maya Angelou famous quote: "I've learned that people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will always remember how you made them feel." In Appreciation The family of Thomas E. Blackwell would like to express our profound gratitude to everyone for your prayers, many acts of kindness and expressions of sympathy at this hour. I would be remiss not to mention Detectives Donny Williams and Alan Jones for all their kindness.
