Obituary

Teresa E. Sligh was born in Knoxville, Tennessee, on June 21, 1961, to John Sligh and his wife Gladys Pauline Fullwood, and died peacefully on May 17, 2019 in Copley, Ohio.

Teresa (Teri)  was predeceased by her parents, Gladys Pauline and John, Grandmother, Minnie B. Fullwood, and her Aunt Louise Grant.

Teri was a graduate of Kent Roosevelt High School, and while a student there she was accepted into  the Kent State University Upward Bound Program. After graduating from High School, She attended Kent State University and Bohecker Business College.

During the early 1990's Teri relocated to Sacramento, California. While there she worked in retail sales for Nordstrom, was an Administrative Assistant for a local church and most notably  was co-owner of Front Row Action, a company which provided surround sound microphones for the University of Oregon football team. Being an entrepreneur, she also started a cultural greeting card company called Imani Expressions. In 2002 Teri and her son Quincy returned to the Akron area and eventually settled in Copley, Ohio. She found employment with a local law firm in Akron, and also worked at FEDEX in the custom critical department.  She eventually reunited with her Kent State University Upward Bound Family. She was employed at Kent State University in various offices, but her heart was with the Upward Bound Program, where she and Quincy would spend many hours with the students and their families. She took great pride in her work with the teen parent population and could always be found soothing a crying baby, or encouraging a young mother. Teri continued to work for Kent State until she was no longer able to work due to her health.

Terri was a loving and giving person with a heart for others. She could always be found doing something for someone else, be it taking food and shopping for them, driving them around to appointments, or just being a listening ear or a shoulder to lean on. She donated food to others who were less fortunate oftentimes packing bags of groceries from her own home and sharing with neighbors, friends or whomever was in need. One of her most favorite things to do was shopping at thrift stores where she could find name brand bargains worth much more than she paid for them. If you needed something, Teri could find it! Her friends and family meant the world to her and she expressed her love for them unconditionally.

Terri loved the Lord and was a true soldier of Christ. She loved to share her faith and became rooted and grounded in the Word of God at The House of the Lord Church Akron, Ohio, where she attended for many years prior to changing her membership to The WORD Church, Akron, OH.

There was one thing that Teri poured her entire life into and that was her son Quincy. Her conversations were often about him and she shared so many stores about his childhood, his accomplishments, and the funny story about how his punishment when he was young was that he couldn't go to the library.  He would as she would say " Just fall out" when he couldn't go to the library. He would rather have a spanking than miss going to the library. She instilled a love of reading in him at an early age and their visits to the library to check out books was a joy to her and an exciting adventure for Quincy. She knew the difficulties that black males faced in this country and wanted him to be well educated, knowledgeable and prepared to be successful in today's society. She prayed for him constantly, and often garnered the prayers of others.  That same loving attitude and quiet respectful spirit is now living in and through him. Quincy was and still is the crowning jewel that she will forever be proud of.

She leaves to cherish her memory: son, Quincy Marcellous Jackson of Akron, Ohio , Sister, Uretha  ("Tiny") Seavers, Miami, FL, Cousins, Dianne (Grant) and Willis Walker, Kent, OH, Meredith Walker, Akron, OH and Thomas (Michelle) Walker, Brimfield, OH, Niece, Deanndria Mujahid, Nephew ,Cameron Seavers, Great Nephew, Myles Mujahid, Miami, FL,

Very Special Friends: Tammy Benson, Carolyn Collins, Cheryl Friday, Bonnie R. Munguia, Dr. Geraldine H. Nelson, Kimberly Odem, Twanna Parms, Vanessa Roberts, and and a host of relatives and friends.

Teri also leaves her precious teacup Yorkie Rocky who she affectionately called "Rahkymm"
