Tara R.
(Poindexter) Shaw "Toots"
March 25, 1972 – January 2, 2026
With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life beautifully lived, we celebrate the homegoing of Tara R. Poindexter Shaw, affectionately known as Toots, born on March 25, 1972. Tara transitioned on January 2, 2026, at UPMC Jameson Hospital in New Castle, Pennsylvania. Tara lived a life marked by love, laughter, resilience, and deep devotion to her family and friends. Her radiant spirit and welcoming heart brought joy to every room she entered, leaving lasting memories filled with encouragement, warmth, and unconditional love. Tara was a devoted and loving mother to her three sons: Tyshaun D. Brown, Tyvaugh D. Brown, and DaJuan C. Brown. She was also a proud and loving grandmother to Ariya A'apree Brown, Braylen Michael Torrence, Jada Damari Brown, Dior Dominique Brown, Kehlani Amore Brown, Skylar Storm Brown, and Tye Dominque Brown, all of whom brought her immense joy. She was a cherished sister to Eldridge G. Poindexter Jr., Debra L. Poindexter, Tonya Poindexter Gunn (Ernie), Todd Mattox (Mary), Byron D. Poindexter (Nikki), Starre K. Poindexter Cox, and Shatia Poindexter Stubblefield. She was also a beloved sister-in-law to Ame' Poindexter, wife of her late brother Mark Poindexter. Tara treasured family gatherings and was known for bringing laughter, togetherness, and love wherever she went. She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Eldridge G. Poindexter Sr. and Lucille Winston Poindexter, and her dear brother, Mark Poindexter. Tara's legacy lives on through the countless lives she touched and the love she gave so freely.
As Scripture reminds us, "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" (2 Corinthians 5:8).
Though she is no longer with us in body, her spirit will forever live on in our hearts.
