L. Cooks, Sr.
April 6, 1925 – December 5, 2020
Solomon J.L. Cooks Sr. went home to be with the Lord on December 5th 2020 at Aultman Hospital in Canton, Ohio. He was born to Annie (Clanton) Cooks and Humphrey Cooks on April 6th 1925 in Shorter, Alabama. He was a member of the S.E. Church of Christ since 1951 and some of his many responsibilities included: Deacon, Assistant Minister, Sunday School teacher, Treasurer, Prison Minister, and baptizing many. He was the last original member of the Board of Trustees for S.E. Church of Christ. He received the Mayor's Proclamation for Citizenship as he continuously gave to the community. He was a master carpenter, driving instructor and gardener. He enjoyed cooking, cleaning, and driving. He loved to smash soulfood. He loved and cherished spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking family vacations to Shorter Alabama every summer. He enjoyed sharing God's word with everyone who crossed His path especially His family, but most of all He was a hard fighting soilder on the battlefield for Christ, who brought many souls to Christ. He loved singing church hymns and studying the bible. He was able to quote scriptures in a phenomenal way. His favorite Bible versus were: John 14:1-6, Acts 17:28 "For in him we live, and move, and have our being" and Matthew 5:8 "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God". His favorite hymns were; "Oh I want to see Him", "Nothing But the Blood", "Walk With Me Lord" and "This May be the Last Time". He is proceeded in death by his parents, His loving wife Ethel Rebecca (Butler) Cooks; daughter Debbie Lynn Cooks; son David Cooks Sr.; and two great grandchildren. He was the last survivor of his 18 brothers and sisters. He leaves to cherish his memories Algie Cook, Mary Cook Bentley, Diane (Ralph) DeGraffenreid, Jesse (Malita) Cooks Jr., Gloria Cooks Roane, Jonathan (Andrea) Cooks, and Nathaniel Cooks. He also leaves to cherish his memories six generations including: Grandchildren, Great Grand Children, Great Great Grandchildren, and a host of Nieces and Nephews.
