Silver R. Thompson was born July 2, 1934 in Aultman Ohio to Antonio & Elizabeth Barbosa. She departed this life Saturday, January 23, 2016. Silver graduated from Greentown High School in 1952. She professed Christ at an early age and was a member of the First Baptist Church of Aultman where she served and sung in the choir. It was in Aultman that she formed many lifelong friendships. Silver was united in marriage to Leroy Thompson February 12, 1954 and remained devoted to one another for over 61 years. Later, Silver became a very active member of Macedonia Baptist Church where she was a regular attendee and loved to help with events. Silver was a sports enthusiast and played fast pitch softball for many years with the Wooster Lumber Girls; the Cardinals. The Cardinals went to the national play-offs many times. However, it wasn't until 1961 that the Cardinals won the state championship. When she was not playing softball she was fishing. Whether off the coast of the Carolinas or attempting to talk someone into allowing her to drop a line into their private pond, fishing was her favorite past time. Silver loved to travel, spend time with her family and friends. While in Portugal and Cape Verde she said and I quote " I have never seen the ocean so beautiful as it is here!" She went on many "business trips" with her friends. She was a member of McKinley Booster Club and was also mascot handler for McKinley High School Bulldogs, where she would run Diesel out on the field after each home team touchdown. For many years, every first weekend of August, if you stopped by Fawcett Stadium at gate number 1, you would see Silver collecting tickets and making the NFL Football game goers laugh. Silver was inducted into the Canton Negro Old-timers Hall of Fame and Canton Amateur Sports Hall of Fame on May 22, 1986. Preceding her in death are her mother and father, her two daughters Judy and Lisa Marie, her three brothers: David, Mark, and Napoleon Barbosa and her sister Antonia Flowers (Barbosa); one brother-in-law & three sister-in-law's.
