Silas Carter passed away Tuesday, May 14, 2013, after an extended illness. Silas was born February 23, 1941 to Raphiel and Rosie Kay Carter.
Silas attended Canton City schools, and graduated from McKinley Senior High in 1959 where he was the first wrestler to make the state finals. Silas was also a Golden Glove Boxing Champion. He was inducted into the Canton Negro Old-Timers Athletic Association, May of 2003; and the Stark County High School Wrestling Hall of Fame in 2009. He was also an avid bowler.
Silas was united in Holy matrimony to Pearl S. Clifford and to this union three sons were born. He was employed with the Timken Co. and retired on disability after many years of service. Silas was also a fifty year plus member of Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church.
Silas was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Silas Alan and Victor; one sister, Martha Harvey; two brothers, Paul and George.
He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years; son, Ivan of the home; and grandson, Victor, Jr., of Atlanta, GA; two sisters, Ozola Mathis of Atlanta, GA and Rosie M. Graves of Canton, OH; three brothers, Willie, Alton and Raphiel, all of Canton, OH; in laws, Erskine (Lucy) Clifford of Massillon, OH, Juan (Evonne) of Canton, OH, Glenn (Deborah) of Massillon, OH, Terrell (Una) of Canton, OH, Ernestine (John) Tigney of Pittsburgh, PA, Juan (Don) Johnson, Linda, Clifford, Arlene, Zachary, all of Canton, OH; one uncle; three aunts and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
