Celebrating Shirley Ann (Massey) Henderson-Kennard, a God-fearing, strong, beautiful person who inspired so many lives. Shirley Ann, a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away at the age of 84 from a brief illness on December 9, 2024, surrounded by her family at her residence in Canton, Ohio. Shirley Ann was born on July 1, 1940, in Malvern, Ohio, to the late Daniel and Eloise (Miles) Massey. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband and friend, Walter Henderson; her second husband, Robert Kennard; her grandparents, Jeff Sr. and Annie (Stamps) Miles, William and Ellen (Dowdy) Massey; her sister, Linda (Massey) Steward; her brothers, James D. "Jay" and Mary A. (Frazier) Massey, Michael Massey, and Veronica (Griffin), Massey; and Aziz Sultan. She was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Laura (Byrd) Keith; sisters-in-law, Monica (Brownsword) Massey, Tonya (Carol) Fontes; brother-in-law, Rudy Fite; and aunts, Minnie "Mit" (Morris) (John) Nesby-Woods, Willie Barksdale, Ommie Miles, Martha Jane (Pat) Singleton, Jean "Tida" (Obie) Jenkins, Della (William) Barrino, and Emma Massey. She was also preceded in death by her uncles, Henry (Keno) Miles, Jeff Miles Jr., Paschol (Valerie) Miles, James "Dick" (Joyce) Massey, and Mack McClendon. Shirley Ann is survived by her children Daryl "Little Boy" Henderson of Canton, Ohio, Toi (Yul) McLaurin of Louisville, Kentucky, and Daniel (Brenda) Henderson of Canton, Ohio; brothers Randy (Pamela) Massey of Perry, Ohio, Kenneth (Patricia) Massey, and Bernard Massey; sisters Paulette (Larry) McElroy, Sarah Massey Fite, and Gloria Massey, all of Canton; brother-in-law Daniel Steward of Warren, Ohio; and other in-laws, Donald Reith Sr., Waliyah Sultan, and Kalimah Sultan, all of Canton. She is also survived by her uncle William "Bill Boy" (Nadine) Massey of Canton and aunts Pearla M. McClendon of Massillon, Ohio, Katherine "Ketie" Miles, and Donna "Tiny" Massey, all of Canton; along with 10 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and 10 great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a special friend, Mae Cola Young. Shirley Ann's unwavering dedication to serving GOD was the cornerstone of her life, and her long-standing membership at First Baptist in Malvern, Ohio, was a testament to her unrelenting passion for spreading love, kindness, and inspiration. Her later years saw her joining Peoples Baptist Church and St. Mark's Baptist Church, both in Canton, Ohio, where she continued to shine brightly, touching the lives of all who knew her. As a proud graduate of Malvern High School, Shirley Ann embarked on a professional journey, working as a secretary for Pugh Home Improvements, before taking the entrepreneurial leap and starting her own cleaning company. Shirley Ann's life was a beautiful reflection of her commitment to serving others,just as she served God, and her selflessness has left a lasting impact on the lives of countless individuals. With a heart full of love, kindness, and generosity, Shirley Ann's life was a testament to the power of compassion and inspiration, leaving behind a legacy that continues to uplift and inspire all who knew her. As a rock for her family, a devoted caretaker, and a trusted counselor, Shirley Ann's unwavering dedication to others continued to inspire until her very last breath, and her memory remains a blessing to all who knew her. Her burdens are now of the past and she is home at last!
