Shaylah
Jones
February 1, 2009 – March 5, 2026
Shaylah "Shaymoney" Jones, a beloved high school student-athlete, daughter, sister, niece, cousin, friend and teammate to so many passed away on Thursday, March 5th, 2026, at the young age of 17. Known for her energetic, sassy, goal getting attitude and dedication on the court and in the classroom. Shaylah had many athletic abilities such as cheer, dance and soccer. However, in the 7th grade she found her love for basketball. She was a standout player who brought a lot of heart, intensity and determination to the game. During her basketball journey, she forged a special bond with all her coaches, and they all played role in helping to shape Shaylah into the player we saw dominate on the court.
A junior in high school, Shaylah was a radiant example of teamwork, resilience and perseverance earning recognition as freshman year honorable mention, Rookie of the year. Sophomore year she earned the title top scorer and All City Second Team; along with being selected to attend the National Youth Leadership Conference. In Shaylah's Junior year, she was once again selected for All City Second Team. Shaylah received a varsity letter for all three years of high school. In the classroom, she was an exceptional student maintaining a 3.8 gpa while being dually enrolled in high school and college classes since her sophomore year. Shaylah was an aspiring doctor; she took an interest in sports medicine and that led to her being an athletic trainer for Buchtel High School's Football Team.
Shaylah was a fashionista; she took pride in what she wore and how she styled her hair. She loved Legos, she loved to travel and experience new things with her family and her best friends Kenadie and Phoenix. She loved seafood, hot wings, Starbucks (make it pretty) and her favorite artist was Rod Wave. Shaylah had a special bond with her brother Jerrell; they displayed love to each other with jokes and playing video games. Shaylah shared a very loving relationship with her mother Latoya, she knew that her mother would stop the world to make sure that she could get play on every team, make every trip and participate in every activity.
Shaylah will always be remembered for her sassy attitude, her leadership on and off the court, her sense of humor and hard work.
She is preceded in death by her Grandmother Barzella Snowden and her Grandfather Micheal Turneur.
