Obituary

Sandy Williams, Jr., “Sandman," 80, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 8, 2026.

Born in 1945 in Akron to Sandy Sr. and Mary Williams, he was their third child and eldest son. He lived on the East Side all of his life.

Deeply devoted to his family and friends, he looked out for and supported his siblings, extended family, and neighborhood friends.

He was the heart at the center of our gatherings, generously organizing and hosting them as a way of keeping everyone connected and close. Everyone was welcome.

Sports were a lifelong passion of his; he umpired softball, played softball, football, and basketball, and always had a game on.

Sandy will be remembered for his generosity, steady presence, and the way he always brought people together.

Preceded in death by his father and mother, Sandy Williams Sr. and Mary E. Williams; sisters, Geraldine Dove, Annie Pearl Williams, Debra Biddings, and Hattie (Von) Williams. He is survived by his brothers, Leonard and Calvin Williams; sisters, Loretta Brown, Betty Williams, Annabelle Brice, and Carla Williams; special nephews, Delacey Williams and Ronald (Lylo) Massey; special niece, Sharnice Williams and lifelong friend and brother-at-heart, Richard Blair and his wife Natalie, all of Akron and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
