Sallie M.
Mccall-Kight
May 15, 2025
Sallie McCall Kight, a devoted woman of faith and a beloved member of the Akron community, was born on July 23, 1954, in Meridian, Mississippi, and went to be with the Lord on May 15, 2025, at the age of 70.
Sallie moved with her family to Akron, Ohio, where she graduated from East High School in 1973 with a focus in Cooperative Home Economics. She spent over 30 years working in the Child Nutrition Department for Akron Public Schools before retiring.
In 1985, Sallie became a born-again Christian and joined Ebenezer Apostolic Assembly Church under Pastor Robert Hale. She was baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost. In 1991, she became a dedicated member of First Apostolic Faith Church under the leadership of Bishop Francis Smith.
At First Apostolic Faith Church, Sallie was a pillar of service. She served as Vice President of the FAFC Master Choir in 2006 and remained a faithful member of the Master's Choir. She also held the position of Assistant Treasurer for the Officers and Ministers' Wives group and actively participated in outreach programs such as "Dinner for Heaven's Rest," where she served alongside the missionary kitchen staff.
Sallie's vibrant personality shone through in her many hobbies—she loved listening to music, roller skating, cooking, gardening, and traveling. One of her most treasured memories was taking a Carnival Cruise aboard "The Fun Ships."
Her favorite scripture was John 14:1
"Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me."
Her favorite song, I'm Gonna Trust in the Lord, embodied her deep and abiding faith. She often encouraged young people with the words:
"The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord, and He delighteth in his way."
Sallie was preceded in death by her parents, Bee and Fannie Mae McCall; and siblings B.C. McCall, James McCall, Fannie Louise McCall, and Fred McCall.
She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband, Chester Kight; her children, Dontae McCall, Karen Kight, and Tim Kight (Tausha); her siblings Estell McCall (Eva), Henry McCall, and Lillie Hunt, all of Meridian, MS; her best friends Debbie Douglas, Bernice Milling, and Charmaine Claxton; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Sallie Kight will be deeply missed by her family, church family, and all who were blessed to know her. Her legacy of love, service, and unwavering faith will live on for generations to come.
